Forty years ago, the Insect GSR had all of the 50 horsepower, enough to give him the necessary performance for a sporty compact time. But in the modern world demands a lot more under the hood. New GSR 210 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque enable the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.6 seconds and to reach an electronically governed top track speed of 130 mph. This new tool, Volkswagen has re-interpreted the 1970s GSR for the modern era. The Bodyshell of 1973, the Beetle was painted yellow, while the hood, the trunklid and bumpers are completed, matte black. The look was rounded out by the black trim strips under the side windows and the black rocker panels. The yellow and black link old and new: the body and the R-Line® bumpers on the new GSR mainly yellow, the hood at the black and the trunklid, roof and exterior mirror covers all black. The new car has a yellow/black ribbons with “GSR” is written above the side skirts and a large rear spoiler to complete the look. The posture of the new car is very different, as it rides on 19-inch “Tornado” aluminum-alloy wheels shod with 235/40 tyres, compared with the original GSRs 15-inch steel wheels and 175-section tires, which were quite common even sporty cars back then. New GSR also features silver-painted brake calipers.

Then as now, the GSR features a unique interior with a yellow/black theme, sport seats and leather sports steering wheel. New GSR much more sophisticated, however. A black-trimmed leather sports seats, and high-grip leather steering wheel, both have contrasting, yellow stitching, for example. Other interior changes between a R-Line dash pad, GSR shift lever, leather parking brake lever and black floormats, contrasting yellow embroidery. A badge of the steering wheel is marked with the special-edition number (1 to 3500) to highlight the uniqueness of the car.

Volkswagen Beetle GSR will be available as the fall of the 2014 model; the pricing will be announced closer to launch.
