Mercedes GLK Undisguised on the Set of 'S.. and the City'

Caught on the set of American cable television show “S.. and the City”, the 2009 Mercedes-Benz GLK Class is wearing no camouflage revealing all of the design details. As a bonus, we also get a glimpse of the beautiful Kim Cattrall, one of the four main characters of the romantic comedy. These photos were shot last Sunday on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills during the filming of the movie-version.

At first sight the new GLK looks like a disguised GL, but in reality this prototype is considerably smaller than Mercedes' full-size sport-ute. Translated, the name GLK basically means "short version of GL" as K is a diminutive of the German "kurz," meaning short. The GLK is using technical components from the all-new Mercedes C-class, and it will keep very close in design to the GL-Class. The GLK will debut as a 2009 model at the Frankfurt auto show in Geneva 2008. Power is expected to come from a 3.5-liter V6 with Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel-drive standard. All versions are expected to have the 7G-Tronic TouchShift automatic transmission. Later on there could be a V8-powered GLK63 AMG version. While the U.S. is slowly moving away from big SUVs, Mercedes is losing market share to small SUVs like the BMW X3. With this new GLK it is hoping to get back on top again.

Pininfarina Sintesi Concept to Debut in Geneva

Pininfarina has announced the unveiling of a new concept at the Geneva Motor Show in early March, 2008. Not since the Birdcage 75th Concept (pictured above), which debuted three years ago, has Pininfarina displayed a prototype anticipating future design trends as well as new technologies in the areas of mobility, active safety and packaging solutions. Named “Sinesi”, the prototype which in typical Pininfarina style, focuses on “beauty driven by functionality, of sportiness and elegance”. The Sintesi is the result of the Pininfarina Design Department, under the direction since last August by Lowie Vermeersch, the 33 year old Design Director with almost ten years experience at Pininfarina. Assisting him are Vice Directors Guglielmo Cartia and Fabrizio Valentini and chief designers Jason Castriota, Giovanni Piccardo, Goran Popovic and Giuseppe Randazzo.

Chrysler Named No.56 On 101 Dumbest Moments In Business List

Chrysler has found themselves at number 56 on the Fortune magazine list of the 101 Dumbest Moments in Business for 2007, because of a viral ad the company commissioned for its Dodge Nitro SUV.

Earlier this year, a viral ad for the Dodge Nitro began making rounds on the internet. The advertisement featured a red Dodge Nitro minding its own business, until an American Bulldog walks into frame looking for a place to relieve itself. After sniffing the front passenger tire of the Nitro for a second, the dog raises its hind leg and begins peeing on the SUV.

The SUV, clearly upset by this turn of events, fires a fierce bolt of electricity at the dog, striking it dead. The without mercy SUV then fires a second bolt, scorching the dog to a nice crispy black. The tagline appears: Dodge Nitro. Charged With Adrenaline.

Animal rights groups complained, and after a few weeks of the ad circulating around the intertubes DaimlerChrysler pulled the spot. The company tried to claim they did not have full knowledge of the ad's existence. The commercial was made by BBDO Netherlands.

The ad has disappeared from YouTube, with Chrysler claiming using their ownership of the copyright to keep the ad from resurfacing. If you would like to see the spot, our friends at Jalopnik still have it up on their site.

Bolwell Nagari Revival First Photos Released

Just last week Australian kit car maker, Bolwell, announced their triumphant return in 2008 with an all-new 2008 Nagari sports car revival by presenting a preliminary design sketch. And now, after three years of design and development work, Bolwell has released first images of the Nagari beginning its final assembly.

The Nagari is intended as an everyday car capable of carrying a set of golf clubs. Including design elements reminiscent of the original Nagari from the early 1970's, the latest incarnation includes a unique, custom-designed windscreen and compound-curvature and fully opening door windows.

The Nagari makes its world debut at the Melbourne Motor show is on February 29.

BMW 1-Series Coupé Configurator Goes Live

BMW 1-Series fans have reason to rejoice. BMW's German web site now has a 1-Series configurator up live on its web site.

The new configurator can be found by going to http://www.bmw.de/de/de/index_highend.html, and clicking on the "1" at the top left of the screen (for "1-Series"). Next step, click on "BMW 1er Coupé", bringing out a dropdown menu. Select "BMW 1er Coupé konfigurieren" and you're on your way.

We built ours in Sparkling Graphite Metallic, with 18" 261 M rims, red leather interior, and aluminum trim. In the end, the car looks pretty hot. Plenty of different combinations are available on the site right now. You can see our step-by-step screenshots in the photo gallery.

The BMW 1-Series Coupé is anticipated for Spring 2008 production, with two versions available to the eager public. BMW's 128i Coupé runs on a 3.0 liter, 230 horsepower, inline six engine with 200 ft-lb of torque. The 135i is a step up, having a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline six, getting 300 horsepower and 300 ft-lb of torque at 1,400 rpm. The 135i will reportedly go 0-100 km/h in 5.3 seconds.

VW to Launch First Turbocharged CNG Passat

Following an interview with Reiner Mangold, the Managing Director of Volkswagen Individual, Automotive News reports VW is currently working on the world's first turbocharged compressed natural gas (CNG) engine.

First used in the Golf Sport, VW will use the small turbocharged 1.4 TSI for the Passat CNG. Power output is expected to be 150hp. With launch early in 2008, the new technology will subsequently be used in the Golf and Touran.

The cost of compressed natural gas is currently less than €0.90 per liter compared to €1.35 for petrol. With the opportunity to save up to 50% on fuel costs, fleet managers are likely to pleased.

Second Generation Volvo XC90 Canceled

Auto Motor Sport Sweden have revealed that the next generation Volvo XC90 has been canceled despite launch plans in end of 2009. Sources close to AMS Sweden state the decision was made just a few days ago and supplier companies have not been informed yet.

This bold decision was influenced by several factors. The increased costs associated with the need to save weight and therefore include expensive lightweight components, plus the absence of new engines, transmissions and no hybrid technology – not even start/stop engine function, make it a hard sell. Additionally, as an indicator for market conditions in the U.S., the biggest market for large SUV's, Ford sees BMW X5 sales dropping. As a result, Ford have determined that in order to stay competitive, any new models must offer lower fuel consumption and a hybrid model.

With it's demise written on the wall, the XC90 will have another big facelift in 2009 and continue until 2012 with still, no major changes or new engines. Instead Volvo will concentrate on the upcoming XC60, smaller XC50 and even smaller XC30. However, with the slim possibility that the XC90 gets pardoned from its death sentence, it will be built on a Ford Platform.

New BMW 1-Series Concept

New BMW 1-Series Concept

Conjecture and speculation is running rampant around WCF on the news that BMW will introduce a new concept derived from the 1-series at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show. According to Automotive News, BMW plans to show off the new car during their 11:30 a.m. press conference in Tokyo on October 24.

Our first thought was that BMW would show off a design for the X1 SUV crossover. That guess was ruled out by the last line of the article:

"But a BMW spokesperson denied it would be the X1 small SUV."A convertible based on the 1-series is a distinct possibility. So too is a 1-series hot hatch.

Odds are some more details will come out in the next ten days, but until then we would love to hear your guesses as to what this new concept could be. Fill out a comment and let us know what you think!

Roush Increases P-51A* Production

Roush has received more interest and enthusiasm than expected for the Roush P-51A* Mustang since its unveiling on 30 October. So the company is increasing planned production of the car from 100 units to 151 units. Dealers and consumers have been slobbering at the thought of owning a P-51A* since its debut at SEMA.

The excessive interest in the car was unexpected, even for company executives. Roush Performance GM Joe Thompson said, "Certainly we anticipated that the Roush P-51A Mustang would be a popular car and sell quickly to our dealer base."

"But I must say that we were a little surprised at just how fast the demand grew for this car," he said.

Inspired by the P-51 Mustang fighter plane of World War II lore, the P-51A* boasts 510 horsepower and 510 ft-lb of torque. No Roush-produced Mustang can match those figures. The 4.6 liter engine has been completely rebuilt with a steel crankshaft, aluminum pistons, and (of course) the famous Roushcharger supercharger.

Roush made heavy changes to the exterior, including a complete aerodynamic package, 18-inch five spoke wheels, and a top-shelf suspension kit. Interior modifications consist of leather seats, white gauges, and special badging around the car.

During SEMA, Jack Roush was quoted as saying, "This is the type of product that ROUSH has wanted to produce for at least 10 years but the right platform, the right technology, and the right timing never intersected until now."

Final pricing will be announced in January 2008, and this added interest will surely cause the price to bump up higher. Production is still scheduled to begin during the first few months of 2008.

Press Release

HIGH DEMAND PUSHES ROUSH® TO INCREASE PRODUCTION ON P-51A* MUSTANG

LIVONIA, Mich. (December 18, 2007) - When Jack Roush pulled off the cover and unveiled the new 510-horsepower ROUSH® P-51A* Mustang at the SEMA Show in October, it took just moments before the telephones started ringing at the offices with dealers and consumers clamoring to get hold of the muscle car.

Although the ROUSH order bank isn't scheduled to open to authorized Ford dealers with final pricing until January, 2008, the post-announcement interest was enough for ROUSH management to re-assess the total number of ROUSH P-51A Mustangs that will be released to the public. Consequently, ROUSH Performance has decided to increase the production run to 151 units when these start build, anticipated to be the first quarter of 2008. It was previously announced that the production volume would be limited to 100 units.

"Certainly we anticipated that the ROUSH P-51A Mustang would be a popular car and sell quickly to our dealer base," said Joe Thompson, general manager of ROUSH Performance. "But I must say that we were a little surprised at just how fast the demand grew for this car so we worked with our suppliers to make ensure that an increased volume would be possible and can now announce that there will be 151 vehicles produced next year."

The ROUSH P-51A is easily the highest horsepower Mustang that the company has ever produced, and represents the first time that internal engine components have been upgraded by ROUSH technicians in their Livonia, Mich., facility. The stock Ford 4.6L, 3V engine will see a rebuild of several of the functional internal components, including a forged steel eight-bolt crankshaft, forged aluminum pistons with increased dish to lower the compression from 9:8 to 8:6, and forged steel H-Beam connecting rods. These upgraded parts were necessary for the stock Ford engine (which comes with 300 horsepower from the factory) to be able to withstand the additional power generated from the newest iteration of the legendary ROUSHcharger* supercharger system.

Finnish F1 Driver Kovalainen Lands Ride with McLaren Mercedes

McLaren Mercedes hasn't had much good news lately. Having lost the driver's and constructor's championships, 100 million Euros in fines, and the premature departure of two-time World Champion, Fernando Alonso, McLaren is ready to put that all behind and start fresh with Finland's very own Heikki Kovalainen as the replacement driver for Alonso.

Kovalainen showed great promise in his rookie year with Renault in 2007 and now Vodafone McLaren Mercedes have snapped him up. As the fourth Finn ever to wear the McLaren colors, Heikki's predecessors include Keke Rosberg, Mikka Häkkinen and of course, the current World Champion, Kimi Räikkonen.

It has been suggested that Team Boss, Ron Dennis, has favored Finnish drivers due to their cool and calm demeanor, hence Räikkonen's nick name, “Iceman”. Their ability to deflect pressure and control anger are very attractive characteristics as a driver and team member.

Kovalainen joins Lewis Hamilton who enjoyed the most successful rookie season in the history of the Formula 1 World Championship with consecutive podiums in his first nine races. Together, Kovalainen, 26, and Hamilton, 22, will be one of the youngest driver line-ups.

600hp Dodge Viper SRT-10 Goes Into Production

Production has begun on the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10, according to parent-company Chrysler, LLC. Workers at a Detroit-area plant will hand-assemble the sometimes overlooked American sports car.

Getting 600 horsepower and 560 ft-lb of torque, a gigantic all-aluminum 8.4 litre SRT V-10 engine powers the road-racer. But prepping this car to its Street & Racing Technology (SRT) standard specifications is no easy task.

Nearly 50 workers take up to 21 hours hand assembling the car along a 700 ft. assebly line. Simultaneously, nine workers hand build the engine. This process is critical to the Viper's overall quality, according to the automaker. Conner Avenue Assembly Plant Manager Melissa Holobach said, "Our assembly process is just as exceptional as the car."

"The process of building these vehicles by hand has allowed us the freedom to produce race-inspired performance without the constraints of mass production," she continued. "Our workforce is committed to producing the best vehicles possible and it shows in their commitment to detail."

18-inch wheels in the front, and 19-inch wheels in the back, and a 0-100-0 mph time of about 12 seconds, this car's amazing braking and ass-kicking power assures it to be a fun ride. Thanks in part to an engine co-designed by US-Based McLaren Performance Technologies, the Viper SRT-10 goes 0-60 mph in less than four seconds.

Two models, a roadster and a coupe, will see North American showrooms beginning this year. Base price on the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 is $83,895.

Chrysler LLC Launches Production of New 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10® at Conner Avenue Assembly Plant

  • 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10® hand-built at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant
  • Additional 90 horsepower on tap from all-new 600-horsepower 8.4-liter Viper SRT10 V-10 engine built at Conner Avenue Assembly

Chrysler LLC today announced the manufacturing launch of the new 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10®, which is being built at the company’s Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit.

In a time when most manufacturing plants utilize hundreds of state-of-the-art robots to assemble vehicles, a unique plant in Detroit is producing hand-built performance vehicles.

At the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant, workers called “Craftspersons” hand-build the new Dodge Viper SRT10 and all-new 600-horsepower 8.4-liter SRT V-10 engine. Utilizing 26 work stations on a 705-foot-long assembly line, 48 hand-picked UAW workers assemble each vehicle. Each vehicle remains stationary for up to 49 minutes per work area as the Craftspersons make any necessary adjustments. This process eliminates traditional repair stations with all procedures verified by Craftsperson team members.

Each Dodge Viper is primarily made of seven component modules (instrument panel, fuel tank, suspension corner modules, wheels and tires, cooling module, lift gate assembly and full dressed engine). With the exception of the engine, all modules are shipped to the Conner facility from other locations. Stamping, casting and welding all take place off-site with body panels arriving already painted.

Normally performed only on race cars, an alignment machine sets caster and camber at normal ride height, at jounce and at rebound (upward and downward travel of suspension). Typical factory alignments set caster and camber in the normal ride height position only. The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 is the only U.S. production vehicle set up for such alignment at the factory.

“Our assembly process is just as exceptional as the car,” said Melissa Holobach, Plant Manager – Conner Avenue Assembly Plant, Sterling Heights Vehicle Test Center (SHVTC) and Pilot Operations. “The process of building these vehicles by hand has allowed us the freedom to produce race-inspired performance without the constraints of mass production,” Holobach said. “Our workforce is committed to producing the best vehicles possible and it shows in their commitment to detail.”

The all-new 600-horsepower 8.4-liter SRT V-10 engine is built next to the vehicle on a 24-station circular line by nine Craftspersons. These nine workers assemble and certify each engine before they are installed in the chassis.

Each Dodge Viper is tested in place on the assembly line utilizing special rollers. At this stage the vehicle is a rolling chassis without its body panels. During this “roll test” it is driven through all six speeds of the transmission, up to 90 mph to verify vehicle function.

Since its introduction as a concept car at the 1989 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Dodge Viper has captured the hearts and imagination of enthusiasts around the world. The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 is offered in both Roadster and Coupe versions. With its dramatic styling and 600 horsepower, the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 is the ultimate American sports car.

“The 2008 Dodge Viper continues to be an icon for not only the Dodge brand but the Company, “ said Frank Ewasyshyn, Executive Vice President – Manufacturing. “Compared to our other manufacturing facilities, this is a very labor-intensive plant, but to build the Dodge Viper any other way wouldn't be right. This small craft shop allows us to produce a true American legend.”

The next chapter of Dodge Viper continues to set the definition of extreme, yet features greater levels of refinement and finish. The new 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 boasts more of what performance aficionados crave: more horsepower, benchmark braking, world-class ride and handling, a race-inspired interior and bold exterior styling.

While every SRT vehicle offers balanced overall performance, the heart and soul of the new 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 is its new powertrain. For 2008, SRT ups the ante with a new, 8.4-liter aluminum V-10 engine that produces an astounding 600 horsepower and 560 lb.-ft. of torque.

With 600 horsepower – 90 more than before, and 0-to-60 performance in less than four seconds, the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 sets a new benchmark for the ultimate American sports car.

The new 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 will arrive in Dodge showrooms in North America this fall with a new level of customization options, including five new exterior colors, four new interior color combinations and a new wheel design.

Every SRT vehicle showcases five key aspects: Exterior styling that resonates with the brand image; race-inspired interiors; world-class ride and handling characteristics across a dynamic range; benchmark braking; and standout powertrain.

Even More Venom

  • Additional 90 horsepower on tap from new 8.4-liter Viper SRT10 V-10 engine
  • Dramatic new hood features restyled, functional air extractors
  • 0-60 mph in under four seconds, 0-100-0 mph in just over 12 seconds, braking in under 100 feet
  • New exterior, interior colors provide customers with increased customization options

The new 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 boasts more of what performance aficionados crave: kick-in-the-pants, throw-back-in-the-seat power, combined with benchmark braking, world-class ride and handling, a race-inspired interior and bold exterior styling.

While every SRT vehicle offers balanced, overall performance, the heart and soul of the new 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 is its standout powertrain. For 2008, SRT ups the ante with a new, 8.4-liter aluminum V-10 engine that produces an astounding 600 horsepower and 560 lb.-ft. of torque.

A legendary big-game hunter once said, ‘Bring enough gun!’ – and with the new 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10, we’ve created some very powerful artillery for sports-car enthusiasts,” said Kipp Owen, Director – Street and Racing Technology (SRT) Engineering, Chrysler Group. “With 600 horsepower – 90 more than before - and 0-to-60 performance in less than four seconds, the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 sets a new benchmark for the ultimate American sports car.”

The new 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 will arrive in Dodge showrooms in North America this summer with a new level of customization options, including five new exterior colors, four new interior color combinations and a new wheel design.

Standout Powertrain

When SRT powertrain engineers set out to get more venom from the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10’s powerplant, their objectives included not only increasing performance, but also complying with stringent regulatory requirements, such as federal Tier 2, Bin 5 and California’s Low Emissions Vehicle (LEV) 2 mandates.

Working with specialists from McLaren Performance Technologies and Ricardo, Inc., SRT engineers began by following the racer’s basic formula for more power: bigger displacement, more efficient breathing and higher engine speed.

The new Dodge Viper SRT10’s deep-skirted V-10 aluminum engine block was revised for a 1-millimeter larger bore, raising the displacement to 8.4 liters from 8.3 liters. With strengthened bulkheads and improved water jackets for better cooling, the block includes pressed-in iron cylinder liners and cross-bolted main bearing caps for strength and durability.

The Viper SRT10’s 8.4-liter engine breathes through new cylinder heads equipped with Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC)-shaped combustion chambers, larger valves and Variable Valve Timing (VVT). VVT electronically adjusts when the exhaust valves are open and closed according to engine speed and load, allowing the engine to “breathe” cleaner and more efficiently.

The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 V-10’s two-piece intake manifold combines a cast aluminum lower with smooth runners for better air flow, bolted to a die-cast aluminum upper plenum. A revised air-cleaner box with a low-restriction filter sends air through a dual electronic throttle control into the intake module.

The air-fuel mixture in the cylinders is ignited by platinum-tip spark plugs fired by new individual plug coils mounted on the cylinder-head covers.

Within the cylinders, pistons are equipped with larger-diameter floating pins with bronze bushings for high-load capability. Forged powder-metal connecting rods are secured with aircraft-quality fasteners for increased fatigue strength.

Engine lubrication is managed by a larger oil pump and a swinging oil pickup adapted from Viper competition engines, to improve oil pressure in high-rpm and hard-cornering conditions.

Spent gases exit through tubular air-gap headers, which not only improve exhaust flow, but also ensure quick catalyst light-off for improved emission control. The headers’ stamped stainless-steel outer shell acts as a thermal heat shield for the individual stainless-steel runners that contribute to better flow separation and exhaust tuning.

SRT engineers didn’t stop there. Upgrades were developed to handle the 8.4-liter V-10’s increased horsepower and torque levels, while improving traction, driveability – and durability.

The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10’s V-10 channels its power through a new, smaller-diameter, twin-disc clutch (a change from the previous larger-diameter, single-disc setup). The new clutch reduces rotating inertia by 18 percent, resulting in reduced clutch-pedal effort and improved engagement feel.

The transmission is the latest evolution of the Tremec T56 six-speed manual, known as the TR6060. It features 10 percent wider gears for higher torque capacity and a new synchronizer package. A new shifter system results in reduced shifter travel. Club racers will applaud a new provision for adding an external transmission cooler.

Benchmark Braking

Stopping power is another key attribute of the Dodge Viper SRT10 formula, with 14-inch brake rotors gripped by Brembo 44/40 dual opposing piston calipers in the front and Brembo 42/38 dual opposing calipers in the rear. An anti-lock braking system (ABS) prevents lockup during hard braking. This system results in a benchmark braking performance of 60-to-0 mph in less than 100 feet.

World-class Ride and Handling

The ride and handling of the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 is defined by a race-bred, fully independent, four-wheel suspension featuring lightweight, high-performance aluminum control arms and knuckles, damped by lightweight coil-over shock absorbers.

Where the power goes right to the road, SRT engineers retained the tried-and-true Dana M44-4 rear axle and outfitted it with a new GKN Visco-Lok speed-sensing limited-slip differential for improved traction.

The Dodge Viper SRT10 rides on polished, forged aluminum, 18 x 10-inch front and 19 x 13-inch rear wheels now available in three styles: the five-spoke, the H-spoke and the all-new Razor wheel with five U-shaped spokes. The wheels are clad in Michelin® Pilot® Sport PS2 tires. The four-groove tread-design tires provide maximum grip, reduced road noise and superior handling in both wet and dry conditions.

Bold Exterior Styling

The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 remains available in two body styles – Roadster and Coupe. Both feature a dramatic new hood with a larger, more efficient hood scoop for air induction and larger, functional hood louvers to facilitate a greater cooling effect for the more powerful 8.4-liter, 600-horsepower V-10 engine underneath.

Eight exterior colors will be introduced throughout the model year – five of which are all-new including Venom Red, Snakeskin Green, Viper Violet, Viper Orange and Bright Blue. Racing stripes continue to be an option with six dual painted stripe colors available: white, black, silver, graphite, blue and red.

Several exterior differences exist between the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 Roadster and Coupe. In fact, the only body panels they share are front fascia and fenders, hood and doors. However, all of the iconic Viper SRT10 design cues have been maintained including the signature crosshair grille, deep-cut side scallops, swept-back fenders and lowered hood lines.

The Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe’s hard top with its “double bubble” styling makes it even more torsionally stiff than the Roadster. The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe offers increased downforce and high-speed stability with its sloping roofline and deck-lid spoiler. Plus, the Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe has an additional 6.25 cubic feet of trunk space than the Viper SRT10 Roadster, for a total of 14.65 cubic feet. The roof and headliner structure offer more room to accommodate a safety cage, while maintaining as much headroom as possible.

Race-inspired Interior Design

The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 Roadster and Coupe cockpit retains its characteristic red push-button starter and performance-oriented, highly functional instrument panel with center-mounted tachometer and 220-mph speedometer.

Five interior colors will be available in 2008: black, and four new color combinations in black/red, black/blue, black/slate or black/natural tan. A choice of bezel finishes on the center instrument panel and console adds to the increased level of customization.

The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 delivers die-hard performance enthusiasts a perfect combination of outrageous power, exceptional performance and stunning good looks,” said Mike Accavitti, Director – Dodge Motorsports and SRT Marketing and Product Planning, Chrysler Group. “And now with a whole new range of interior and exterior colors and options to choose from, the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 redefines how a customer can personalize their Viper.”

2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 Safety and Security

The following safety and security technologies are featured on the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10:

  • Adjustable Pedals: Allow brake and accelerator pedals to move toward or away from the driver to help driver achieve a safe and comfortable seating position for improved control
  • Advanced Multistage Front Air Bags with Occupant Classification System (OCS): Inflates with a force appropriate to the severity of the impact. The OCS measures the conditions for activation or deactivation of the passenger side front air bag based upon the weight of the occupant
  • Anti-lock Brake System (ABS): Senses and prevents wheel lockup, offering improved steering control under extreme braking or slippery conditions
  • BeltAlert: Periodically activates a chime and illuminates an icon in the instrument cluster to remind the driver and front passenger to buckle up if a vehicle is driven without the driver being properly belted
  • Center High-mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL): The shelf-mounted center high mounted stop lamp uses light emitting diodes (LEDs) for longer life
  • Constant Force Retractors (CFR): Distribute force or load exerted on a seat belt, and then gradually release the seat belt webbing in a controlled manner
  • Crumple Zones: Designed to compress during an accident to absorb energy, decreasing transfer of that energy to the occupants
  • Energy-absorbing Steering Column: The manual-adjust steering column uses two hydroformed coaxial tubes that can move relative to each other to allow the column to move forward for enhanced energy absorption during a crash. The power-adjust steering column employs a calibrated bending element that deforms during column stroke for optimal energy management
  • Interior Head-impact Protection: Interior pillars above the beltline and instrument panel – including areas around windshield and rear window headers, roof and side rail structures, and shoulder-belt turning loops – specifically designed to limit head-impact force
  • Knee Bolsters: The lower instrument panel and the glove-box door are designed to properly position the occupant, enabling the air bags to work effectively
  • Remote Keyless Entry (RKE): System enhances personal security by locking and unlocking doors and turning on interior lamps. The system also arms and disarms the Vehicle Theft Security Alarm
  • Three-point Seat Belts with Pretensioners: Three-point lap and shoulder belt retractors incorporate a pretensioning feature to enhance occupant protection in an impact by managing occupant energy
  • Tire-pressure Monitoring (TPM): Pressure-sensor modules within the valve stems of all four wheels send continuous radio-frequency signals to a receiver, and the system informs occupants when the pressure is too low

Arden Range Rover AR7

Based on the current Range Rover L322, famous Land Rover and Jaguar tuning firm, Arden, have set their sites on the mid-size SUV. In the engine department, Arden have taken the standard 400hp 4.4-liter supercharged Jaguar V8 engine and slightly increased displacement to 4.5 liters. The result is 480hp and 650 Nm which catapults the Range Rover from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds – top speed is 240 km/h.

Stylistically, the AR7 gets a sporty body kit with the front bumper fascia containing a hand-made stainless steel grill and air vents which increase air flow the cooling system as well as reducing lift on the front axel plus integrated LED daytime running lamps. Other components in the body kit include wheel arch extensions, side skirts and a newly developed rear apron, which like the front fascia features several grill inserts. Also integrated into the rear fascia is a stainless steel sport exhaust system with horizontally split rectangular tailpipes for a one-of-a-kind look.

Rounding out the package are 22 or 23-inch Arden Sportline wheels with upgraded 6-piston (front) and 4-piston (rear) brake calipers.

Press Release

Noble power SUV: Arden Range Rover AR7

  • superior 480 HP and powerful 680 Nm
  • compressor motor with increased cubic capacity
  • sporty aerodynamic kit
  • resonant sound with stainless steel exhaust system / extravagant exhaust tailpipe design
  • 22" or 23" wheels, high performance braking system
  • elegant sporty interior

Elegance, discreet sportiness and understatement have always been the characteristics of British cars. The car enhancement specialist and registered automobile manufacturer from Krefeld was unable to resist the attraction of these vehicles over 30 years ago. It has for many years been a refuge for customers wanting it to individualize their Jaguar or Range Rover and emphasize its typical characteristics. Arden's latest development is the AR7. It is based on the Range Rover LM, which Arden completely converts and provides with more overtaking prestige. The base vehicle which is impressive due to its sheer size becomes captivating with its extraordinary sporty look. Meanwhile enhanced performance of the Range Rover compressor motor contributes to the sporty driving performance.

Superior performance

Arden obtains not less than 480 HP from the from the supercharged V8, its cubic capacity having been raised to 4.5 litres. Together with the torque which has been increased to an ample 680 Nm, this provides the not exactly light Range Rover with an appealing driving performance. The sheer power catapults the British SUV from nought to one hundred km/h in 6.5 seconds. Outstanding engine power goes without saying. Even if speeds beyond 200 km/h do not happen often due to the flow of traffic, the Arden AR7's 480 HP make over 240 km/h possible.

Arden bodykit: better look, better driving behavior

Arden adapted its aerodynamic components to the Range Rover's basic design in a masterly fashion. As usual with Arden, the kit looks as though it fits seamlessly. The completely re-designed, in total 6 cm wider front apron, which replaces the production part, features a hand-made stainless steel grill and air vents. These features emphasize not only the dynamic and powerful appearance, they also provide more effective air supply to the cooling units behind. Arden has made substantial improvements to the aerodynamics, effectively reducing lift to the front axle; this has a lasting benefit on handling performance at higher speeds. The LED daytime running lights deserve special attention. They comply with the future European standards and are harmoniously integrated right and left above the large air intakes. To complete the powerful appearance, Arden also enhances the Range Rover with wheel arch extensions, side skirts and a newly developed rear apron, which like the front apron features several grill inserts.

With regards to harmoniously designing the rear area, Arden adapted the design of the exhaust tail pipes of the stainless steel sport exhaust system, which was exclusively hand-made for the new AR7, perfectly to the design of the rear apron. The system which produces a marvellous resonant sound ends in rectangular tailpipes, with its openings characterized by a horizontal center bar, so that they do not appear too overpowering and meet Arden's standards for understatement.

"Bigfoot"

The "Sportline" wheels have a large share in the appearance of the Arden AR7. Arden offers the three-part forged wheel in 22" or 23". The increased size compared with the production Range Rover clearly improves the handling of the SUV and gives the driver more driving pleasure.

Whoever decides on enhanced power should also think of suitable braking performance. So that the Arden AR7 comes to a standstill as quickly as it accelerates, Arden incorporates at the front a 6-piston and at the rear a 4-piston braking system which distributes its power emphatically on the internally ventilated and perforated brake disks.

Elegant interior

The interior does not come off badly with Arden either. In the in-house saddlery all of the interior work is carried out to the highest precision and converted into the customer's requirements with great attention to detail. Leather and alcantara are made to measure in any colour desired, a wide variety of high-grade woods are processed and also chrome, carbon and aluminium applications are made for customers.
