Denso Iridium IXUH 22 Spark Plug for Peugeot 308 THP 140

The plugs arrived today ... in an very conventional box ... nothing fancy except probably the coating on the spark tip.. got it regap at 0.7mm before delivery and reconfirmed again myself.

I have bought some tools just to remove the oem plug and also fit in the new one. OEM requires the bi-hex 14mm tool, whereas Denso uses the 16mm hex.

Also propped myself with a gap gauge ...for future gapping purpose ...

First thing to do is remove the old plug (remember to do this when your car is cold else you risk damaging the thread - I have to wait till early in the morning), there are some residues on the tip ... but it is not hard residue apparently it drop off after some movement. Brownish means normal. No melt or excessive carbon, combustion is healthy - measured the gap as well, apparently around .75mm exactly like Peugeot recommended.

Initial run ... it certainly does add a bit of oomph ... very subtle but it is there .some inherent smoothness as well. Definitely recommended for those looking for something extra. But i guess if you add normal plugs after 10k also you will feel some difference but anyhow i feel that it is more obvious than when i change the plugs at 40k. Anyhow since this is only a tad more than OEMs .. im gonna stick to this in the future.

HID Am I a nuisance

To be frank, these 2 days Im having problem with my pug ... After installing the HID .. I was not very used to the additional brightness ... i was looking around wondering if people highlighting me or not .. driving uncomfortably frequently adjusting my light leveller ..

For one, i always curse any opposite car when one of them comes with a HID that was not properly adjusted ... and frankly i would do what i preach.

I had also tried to adjust at home, with leveller and stuff .. try to squad in front of my car to simulate, ask my wife to do so also ..haha ... crazy ..

Cos it looks exceptionally bright when i was behind bright color cars like silver or white by just looking at the reflection ... makes me scared of when I will get nailed at road blocks ... you also get the starry glimpse effect especially on the left headlights .. which i love it a lot but also worry that it would cause glare to opposing traffic.

One thing for sure, with the bright headlights, people tends to give way more easily and noticeable from far meaning that it will be safer for you if you drive fast - probably thinking the pug should be something else =D

Ford S max 3rd Month Ownership

Its been a while since i update the blog, nearing year end with cumulative house repair work i have to cope with not to mention that when i receive the S-max ... it was devastated with a lot of tar and iron contaminants on the hood and tailgate that I have to slowly clay away. This has taken a lot of my time, not to mention that the S-max is damn huge to clean impossible without a chair at least for the roof. This is potentially one thing i hate about the car ... other than that - none.

I have oppurtunity to take this car up to Cameron Highlands and then Genting Highlands recently - aside from the space it provided - this car is definitely fun to drive despite its size. My initial fear was unfounded. Bends along the way was tackled without issues ... power delivery was definitely enough. Dare to say, this car handles the Genting slope better than the Peugeot 308 does - and in a much more comfortable way. The only gripe i have is the occasionally slipping tyres when i try to power out the bends. It got my wife asking whats that noise but gives me the chuckles everytime i do so. Probably the Goodyear tyres cannot cope with the weight and torque at hand - but once the steering straightens .. grip comes back. I think the dual clutch that ford has was something in between the Volkswagens dual clutch and conventional torque converters. Once it is in its groove .. it will go on pretty smoothly. The in between gear change are definitely not noticeable and thing is even when i speed - nobody in the car really notices. The car is really a good cruiser - as even my active speed alarm (wife) did not alert when i speed off the highway limits.

Overtaking cars was definitely easy and thing is despite its ability - it is also comfortable. The car is wide and the scariest moment was when i took it into the Boh Plantation ... freaking eery especially when there is a lorry at the opposite side of the road - i have like inches before the lorry destroys the side mirror. I had it gone up to 180 along the way, while my father-in-law was sleeping soundily beside. So i guess you can call it comfortable.

After driving this for like a week, when im back in my polo ... things just felt so different. The S-max is a lot easy to live with and despite its size it is easier to drive. What it doesnt have is the speed thrill that the polo has but for vacation trips - this MPV is very hard to beat. After seeing the S-max, my neighbour had in an Estima after 2 month - well he is a diehard toyota supporter.

Peugeot 308 K N Filter Drop In Initial feel

After the thing went in, I was off to Alor Setar the next day. Well during this period, any comparison will not do justice since the lion was burdened with full load not to mention the luggage and people.

Initial feel is that the car revs more freely on top end ... but it is rather a feel though. Nothing can be certain at current point. One observation made was: last time when you WOT - the revs tends to go 4k easily then progress rather slowly .... after the surgery i observe that it goes around 4.5k before slowing down.

Anyhow, will continue to monitor and post a feedback after my first full tank from the nose surgery on fuel consumption. And my guess is that the ECU may take some time to tune to the new nose since I did not do a reset ... but I doubt it will be any better - since easier to rev means more fuel to burn as I cannot control my right foot whenever I see open roads!!

Somehow I did not able to test the Top Speed yet till current day .. all the time traffic is up before top speed is ... or rather still sayang the lion so ... had only gone till 19x ....

Rear Brake Pad

Visually from my car washing session ... i can literally see the rear is running thin. Did some measurements and it turn out that from calculation .. estimate can last only 2k more ...

Luckily the pagids are here .. so meaning within few months time, it is time for another replacement. Bought the pagids for 20 pounds (roughly RM110) .. wherease OEM spares over here is RM200.

If this are ok, it would be buying frequently from them.

How far can the lion run Marathon mode

Well, if you drive 100% highway and cruise at 80-110km/h range .. basically I think 800km is not a problem.
It was not intentional but i kinda arrive too early today ... ahead of the schedule ... so i decided to cruise at 110km/h.

This was done with cruising from Juru to Ipoh... around 130 ... then slam it on Ipoh ...cos the curves here are fun. Then 110 from there on .... till Klang ...

Potentially i can hit past 770km based on this .. however I cannot proof this since the on my way back, i was on ballistic mode ...  2hrs 20min from Sg. Buloh to Juru ....hehe. In fact, overall i still hit 500km and fuel warning havent come up yet.

RON 95 on Peugeot 308 THP 140 Part II

Driven 100km, and I can slowly see the distance guesstimate rising up ... now still at 420km ... meaning one thing - i practically revs less with my usual driving speed ... and from the looks of it - i think i will be hitting my target of 430km before refueling hence there is no need for the RON95 ..

Believe it or not, ever since i installed this last round I did not have to pump my tyres until now (that was 4 months ago). I checked several times and the pressure loss had been negligible. I would happily recommend this to anyone. One reason for this is that there is a rubber seal at the cap that keep it intact.

Surprise in the blue box arrived today ...

No tax .... good!

Very simple ... a box and 2 cables:
Easy money eh ..

Getting started .. remove the bottom ashtray and rubber pad ... then u will see 4 torx ... just remove the 2 in the center will do.

After removing 2, lift up and remove the air-con controllers casing. Then pull out the additional shelf below the headunit.

Removal of the head unit using allen keys...

The connectors .. power, antenna ... and can bus for the player.

Will need to open up the connector and pull it out to plug in the connector, else will be very hard as it is very tight.

Testing stage ...

Major gripes, it does not show folder or file names .. you will have to guess where u are. This is the display it only shows ...the time funnel icon will keep on spinning and the WAIT is forever there. Loading is very fast after the initial can bus scanning which took around 30 seconds. It will be in debug mode (on display) when u first turn on..so dont be surprised.

I hide the blackbox under the open shelf ... just nice since the air-con console is empty.

Spot the usb?? .. i hide it underneath the steering.

The token slot in our passenger compartment now can be use to store usb sticks ...hehe.

Will i recommend it? .. well yeah, if you dont mind to browse in blind ...while retaining the OEM headunit. It would been better if there are at least indication of number of files and so forth - which i think will need some programming to be done at Nasim with the Planetary System. Sound quality is as good as the CD though - all in all a welcomed upgrade to my system. 4GB thumb will be just nice for the 594 mp3 files.
