  • BMW 650i Convertible, 2012

The BMW 6-Series Coupe Concept debuting at the 2010 Los Angeles International Auto Show as its backdrop, BMW announced the production-ready BMW 650i Convertible. The new 650i Convertible on sale in the Spring of 2011 as a 2012 model for the United States. Final pricing, options, and packages will be announced closer to the on-sale date.

A sweeping hood, aft-set passenger compartment, long wheelbase and muscular profile embody the hallmark proportions of a BMW Convertible. The new BMW 650i Convertible combines these features with a classic soft-top roof with flying buttress design. Powerfully contoured surfaces of its lines promise the anticipated BMW driving experience. The luxurious ambience of the interior is highlighted by a driver-oriented cockpit which wraps the front and rear passengers in a feeling of aesthetic security. Nowhere is the high-class functionality of the interior underlined more prominently than in the redesigned freestanding 10.2" Central Display of the standard iDrive control system.

V-8 engine with High Precision direct injection and turbocharging.
The 4.4-liter V-8 engine develops a maximum 400 hp between 5,500 and 6,400 rpm, and makes peak torque of 450 lb-ft between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm (preliminary). This unique "reverse-flow" engine, whose turbochargers are positioned in the V-area between the cylinder banks, produces an instantaneous and sustained wave of power, making it an energetic delight for the enthusiast driver.

Instantaneous power and torque are the stand-out features of the V-8 engine available of the new BMW 650i Convertible. The engine combines sporting character with outstanding smoothness, linear power delivery, and exceptional efficiency. The engine can be paired with either BMWs new 8-speed Sport Automatic gearbox or BMWs traditional 6-speed manual transmission, quite popular with North American enthusiasts.

The new BMW 650i Convertible completes the sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds with the manual transmission (4.9 seconds with the 8-speed automatic), and top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. This engine also boasts extraordinary efficiency for a model in its output class. EPA figures will be available closer to the on-sale date in 2011.

8-speed Sport Automatic Transmission.
The 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission fitted to the new BMW 650i Convertible boasts a perfect combination of speed, flexibility, sportiness, and efficiency. Its minimal torque converter slip and rapid gear changes set it apart. An innovative gear set configuration allows this transmission to offer eight gears, optimizing the sprinting power yet allowing the driver to save fuel by driving at low revs. Naturally, the driver can choose to select gears manually via shift paddles on the standard Sport leather steering wheel.

In addition to the efficiency of the engine and 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission, an extensive range of BMW EfficientDynamics measures contribute to reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Brake Energy Regeneration, on-demand operation of ancillary components, intelligent lightweight construction and extensive aerodynamic inement ensure maximum efficiency.

Chassis Management and optional Integral Active Steering.
Cutting-edge chassis technology gives the new BMW 650i Convertible the tools to provide both sporty handling and exceptional comfort. The double wishbone front axle and the multi-link rear axle are made predominantly from aluminum. The chassis is geared to the requirements of drivers with sporting intentions, although the dampers also respond sensitively to bumps in the road surface under high lateral acceleration. The optional Active Roll Stabilization combines with the standard Dynamic Damper Control to offer the driver even more precise responses and perfectly flat cornering ability. The electronically controlled shock absorbers adapt to the road surface and the drivers style to perfectly control the cars body motions.

The electronically controlled damper system in the new BMW 6-Series Convertible adjusts compression and rebound settings continuously and independently. For example, a stiff chassis setting can be combined with comfortable responses to unevenness in the road surface. The control unit of the damping system processes the data supplied by sensors on the lifting movements of the wheels and the ride height of the car. The driving speed and the damper setting chosen by the driver are also taken into account in calculating the damping force required for each individual wheel to even out body movements. This data is fed back to the damper units at intervals of just 2.5 milliseconds.

The Active Roll Stabilization feature (optional) reduces body roll in high-speed corners and in sudden changes of direction, or transitions. Sensors calculate the amount of body roll based on the driving situation at hand, and this is then counteracted quickly and precisely by hydraulic rotary actuators in the front and rear axle swaybars, leading to a significant improvement in body motion management.

The electric power steering features standard Servotronic vehicle-speed sensitive assistance, and serves up the familiar BMW recipe of precision, comfort and linear response.

The new BMW 650i Convertible is the first car in its class that can be equipped with Integral Active Steering. This system combines the Active Steering system for the front axle (available on the previous generation 6-Series Convertible) with a new, steerable rear axle. Precisely harmonized steering angle movements at both axles create a virtual lengthening or shortening of the vehicles wheelbase, which fosters greater high-speed stability and enhanced maneuverability for parking and city use.

Brakes, Wheels, and Tires.
The lightweight floating-caliper brakes with vented discs are easy to use with precision, and their effectiveness is reinforced by Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). DSC brings together technology such as the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), the Start-off Assistant, the automatic Brake Drying function and Brake Fade Compensation. Standard equipment also includes 8.5 x19-inch light-alloy wheels, with all-season runflat tires (size 245/40 R19) and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Driving Dynamics Control.
With standard Driving Dynamics Control, the dominant virtues of athletic driving sportiness and ride comfort can be chosen by the driver as situations demand. The driver can choose settings of CsayaFORT, NORMAL, SPORT and SPORT+ modes using the large rocker switch on the center console. Affected parameters include the tuning of the throttle response, power steering assistance, shock absorbers, roll stabilization (if equipped), Integral Active Steering (if equipped), and automatic transmission shift characteristics. In SPORT+ mode, the Dynamic Traction Control mode of the standard Dynamic Stability Control system is activated, raising the thresholds for stability intervention in the most sport-oriented driving circumstances.

Unmatched chassis technology works with the cutting-edge engine to provide the driver with greater dynamic capability and improved ride comfort compared to the previous-generation 6-Series Convertible.

Premiere: Freestanding Central Display with flatscreen design.
The black-panel instrument cluster of the new BMW 650i Convertible combines the traditional sports car circular instruments with state-of-the-art display technology. The Navigation system, telephone and entertainment functions are operated using the iDrive control system, whose Central Display boasts an innovative design. The on-board monitor takes the form of a freestanding display for the first time in the new BMW 650i Convertible. The standard 10.2 inch screen features a high-quality galvanized chrome surround. The shallow depth of the display gives it a modern character. Translective technology ensures the display remains easy-to-read in bright sunlight. The new arrangement of the Central Display - which now reaches further into the passenger compartment -influences the architecture of the instrument panel, which rises steeply in front of the driver and front passenger.

This impression is further enhanced by the structure of the door trim panels. Their surfaces have a powerfully taut look and, like the black waistline surface, pull in and rise up to create a smooth transition into the instrument panel, giving the interior the effect of wrapping around the driver and front passenger.
Design: Athletic elegance, natural sportiness.
The dynamic driving experience of the new BMW 650i Convertible is lected by its athletic presence and sporty exterior design. A long hood, aft-set passenger compartment, long wheelbase and muscular profile create the proportions signature to a BMW Convertible. The precise interplay of eye-catching lines and meticulously sculpted surfaces help to give the new BMW 650i Convertible its show-stopping looks.

Like the lines projecting outward from the nose of the car and continuing along its full length, the harmoniously curved surfaces of the body take their cue from the movement of waves sent out by a the bow of a motor boat piercing the water. Continuing the theme, the waistline surface which leads the body into the interior mimics the character of a classic runabout.

The new BMW 650i Convertible introduces the viewer to its dynamic character through its front end design. The large, slightly forward-slanting BMW kidney grille - the "6-Series shark nose" as characterized by many enthusiasts - gives the car a sense of surging forward, while a broad air intake, strikingly contoured hood and muscular wheel arches hint at the powerful engine and athletic roadholding abilities. High-quality chrome elements positioned on the outer edges of the front apron further accentuate the width of the car. The standard LED foglamps are placed in front of these chrome elements.

The standard Xenon Adaptive headlights of the new BMW 650i Convertible pick up BMWs familiar "twin round" headlamp appearance. An LED accent strip cuts across the top of them. The daytime running lights appear through familiar LED corona rings, whose bright white light illuminates the distinctive front end. A horizontal light strip below the corona rings, meanwhile, handles the turn signal duties.

Uninterrupted, flowing lines lend the silhouette of the BMW 650i Convertible a sweeping elegance. Powerful curves mimic the natural movement of waves. The hallmark BMW character line at door handle level is spawned in the front wheel arch gill - which houses the side indicator lamp - and extends all the way back to join the rear lights.

Another character line is released from the bulge of the front wing, stretching powerfully over the front wheel like a wave before dropping down and continuing horizontally to the rear. Together with the character line, it creates a dynamic wedge shape which emphasises the cars forward-surging character.

Wide and flat surfaces define the rear of the new BMW 650i Convertible. The dominance of horizontal lines adds extra emphasis to the wider track of the new car compared to its predecessor. In addition, downward-converging lines underline the cars focus on the road, echoing the approach at the front end. This distinctive V-shape is created by lines including the side edges of the trunklid, the license plate surround and the contours of the lectors positioned in the bumper. The slightly concave lower section of the trunklid produces light and shade effects which lend an extra lightness to the rear of the car.

The two-part rear light clusters give BMWs familiar L-shape a particularly sporty edge. Inside, two LED-powered light strips create the familiar BMW "bloodlines" night-time look. The indicators and brake lights are also LED units.

The new BMW 650i Convertible again features an electrically powered soft-top roof with flying buttress architecture. The multi-layer canvas roof -optimized in terms of its acoustic properties and structural rigidity - offers outstanding thermal insulation and thus enables the new convertible to be used comfortably all year round. The buttresses project out along the flanks of the 650i into its rear section, accentuating the cars gracefully sweeping silhouette and giving it an unmistakable appearance. The transition of the roofline into the rear end flows as smoothly as on a hard-top coupe.

The heated, vertical glass rear window, which is situated just behind the rear seats, is retracted independently from the soft top itself. This reduces the volume of the soft-top components that need to be stowed in the soft-top compartment, leaving more room for luggage in the low-profile trunk of the new BMW 650i Convertible. The independent rear window also allows just the right amount of fresh air to be admitted to the car, when desired. Conversely, leaving the rear window up while lowering the top keeps air turbulence in the rear to a minimum.

The automatic opening and closing operation for the roof is activated by holding a button on the center console. Opening the roof takes 19 seconds, the closing process 24 seconds. Importantly, as with the preceding generation, both operations can be activated while on the move at speeds up to 25 mph (40 kmh).

The roof of the new BMW 650i Convertible is available in two colors, including new beige. Two non-metallic exterior paint colors and seven metallic shades are available. Exclusive Nappa leather is standard in the United States, and can be ordered in four color options (Vermillion Red, Ivory White, Cinnamon Brown, and Black). The instrument panel, center console, and the upper sections of the rear door panel and side trim can also be lined with Nappa leather with contrasting stitching as an option.

Interior with BMWs traditional driver-oriented cockpit.
The new BMW 650i Convertible is designed to be a 2+2-seater. Its interior offers individually tailored seats for the driver, front passenger and rear passengers. High-quality materials, caully coordinated colors and, once again, meticulously formed surfaces combine to produce an ambience defined by luxury, sweeping style and Teutonic functionality. A hallmark BMW element of the interior design is the driver-oriented cockpit layout. The central section of the instrument panel, containing the iDrive systems Central Display, the air vents and the controls for the audio system and air conditioning, are all angled slightly towards the driver. Added to which, the gearshift lever and the switches for the parking brake, roof operation and Driving Dynamics Control are located on a surface that opens out towards the driver and is set lower than the front passenger side of the center console.

The front passenger area is bordered by a surface curving elegantly from the armrest over the side edge of the center console, upwards and outwards into the instrument panel and then horizontally into the door trim. This provides a harmonious surround for the front passenger area, creating a feeling of exclusive security. The contour of the rear waistline surface, which extends slightly into the interior between the head restraints, highlights the individual seat layout of the rear.

Dimensions and Storage.
At 4,894 millimeters (192.6 in.) in length, the new BMW 650i Convertible is 74 millimeters (2.9 in.) longer than its predecessor. Its extended wheelbase now stretches to 2,855 millimeters (112.4 in.). The car is 39 millimeters (1.5 in.) wider, measuring 1,894 millimeters (74.5 in.) across, while 9 millimeters (0.35 in.) have been shaved from its height (now 1,365 mm / 53.7 in.). These dimensions create a significantly more powerful and elegant impression, while taking interior spaciousness to new levels.

Despite its lower height, the new BMW 650i Convertible offers greater headroom in both front and rear seats. The height adjustment of the driver and front passenger seats also cover a greater range of travel. The increase in the width of the interior is noticeable from all four seats, and passengers in the rear seats benefit from additional legroom. The tilt angle of the rear seat backrest now achieves virtually the same angle as found in BMW Sedans.

A ski bag with a pass-through opening in the rear seat backrest is available as part of the Cold Weather Package (also adds heated steering wheel and heated front seats) and offers space for two sets of skis. The new BMW 650i Convertible boasts 300 liters (10.6 cu. ft.) DIN of trunk space with the convertible top open, allowing two 46-inch golf bags and a business case to be accommodated. With the roof closed, the variable soft-top stowage compartment can be folded up in a single movement to increase trunk capacity to 350 liters (12.3 cu. ft.) DIN. The principles of lightweight design were similarly followed in the construction of the soft-top roof, the stowage compartment for the roof weighing 50 percent less than its predecessor.

New lightweight technology, comprehensive safety equipment.
The new BMW 650i Convertible is fitted with newly developed lightweight seats with an integrated seatbelt system and standard 20-way multi-contour adjustability and adjustable lumbar support. Optionally, the Luxury Seating Package adds front ventilated seats and active fatigue reduction can be added. All seat variants come with crash-activated anti-whiplash head restraints.

The range of standard safety equipment also includes front airbags, head-thorax side airbags integrated into the seat frame, three-point automatic belts for all seats, belt force limiters and front belt pre-tensioners, ISOFIX child seat mounts in the rear and a standard Roll-Over Protection System. The Roll-Over Protection System developed for the new BMW 650i Convertible consists of two high-strength aluminum roll-bars hidden behind the rear head restraints. If the integrated safety electronics register a risk of the car rolling over, the pyrotechnic release mechanism is activated, causing the high-strength aluminum roll-bars to rise from their stowed position in a fraction of a second.

Caully researched advances in materials and development of the cars load-bearing structure have significantly enhanced the bodys construction in terms of the agility and safety it offers. Its static torsional rigidity is about 50 percent greater than that of its predecessor. In the interests of perfect balance, the doors, hood and front spring mounts are all aluminum, while the front side panels, roof lid and trunklid are made from reinforced composite.

This weight optimization has been combined with an improvement in passive safety; the cars mean body strength is 29 percent greater than its predecessor. This has been achieved primarily through the use of high-strength multi-phase steels, high-strength hot-molded steels and aluminum.

Cutting-edge features from BMW ConnectedDrive.
The new BMW 650i Convertible is available with a great variety of driver assistance systems and mobility services from BMW ConnectedDrive. The comprehensive Driver Assistance Package includes Automatic High Beams, Lane Departure Warning, Active Blind Spot Detection, Rear and Top View cameras, Parking Assistant, and a new three-dimensional, full-color Head-Up Display. Also available are BMWs Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection, Active Cruise Control with stop-and-go capability.

HiFi stereo system.
The standard HiFi audio system in the new BMW 650i Convertible comes with an HD Radio receiver, MP3-compatible CD drive, AUX-IN connection, and a HiFi loudspeaker system with nine speakers. The available Premium Sound Package adds SiriusXM satellite radio with a 1-year subscription, iPod and USB adapter, and the Premium HiFi system comprised of 12 loudspeakers and a digital amplifier. It features DIRAC signal processing and model-specific equalizing.

World debut of new-generation Head-Up Display.
Like its predecessor, the new BMW 650i Convertible is the only vehicle in its class with an optional Head-Up Display system. By projecting important information onto the windshield, directly in the drivers line of sight, the Head-Up Display minimizes distraction from the road and traffic. The new-generation system brings a further improvement in display quality: the symbols are projected as three-dimensional graphics and in ultra-clear resolution onto the windshield. Full-color capability makes the road sign symbols even more realistic. At the same time the Head-Up Display is now able to present a wider range of information. Depending on vehicle specification, guidance information supplied by the Navigation system, Check Control messages, status messages from the Lane Departure Warning System and warnings from the BMW Night Vision system can all be shown in the Head-Up Display. The positioning of the messages on the windshield is highly ergonomic, so that drivers are aware of them without having to ocus or take their eyes off the road.

The intensity of the projection automatically adjusts to the ambient light level, and the brightness setting can be adjusted via the iDrive menu. The driver can also choose what information will appear in the Head-Up Display in addition to road speed and warnings from the driver assistance systems.

Rear-View, Top View, and Side View Cameras.
To supplement the standard Park Distance Control, which uses ultrasonic sensors to monitor distance from objects in front or behind, the new BMW 650i Convertible also features a standard rear-view camera. The camera is integrated in the trunklid under the BMW "roundel" badge, which protects it from dirt. When the rear-view camera is activated, the roundel badge pivots up out of the way to expose the camera lens. The perspective-corrected color images are relayed to the Central Display. Superimposed on the images are interactive tracking lines which indicate the optimal steering angle for parking, as well as the tightest turning circle.

The optional Top View system with Side View provides an even more comprehensive picture. In addition to the rear-view camera and the PDC sensors, this system also uses a fish-eye camera in each of the side mirrors. The data acquired by Top View is relayed to a central computer which generates a birds eye view of both vehicle and surroundings and presents the image in the Central Display. This view allows the driver to maneuver precisely in confined spaces.

The Side View function uses two cameras integrated in the front fenders to provide an improved view of cross-traffic at speeds below 10mph. These images are relayed to the Central Display where they may give the driver an early idea of what is happening on the road to the left and right of the car when pulling out from narrow and concealed gateways or car park exits.

Nissan GT R Price 91 109

The 2013 Nissan GT-R is one of the latest version of 2013 Nissan. Nissan say the 2013 Nissan GT-R would feature "a number of engine and suspension inements. The 2013 Nissan GT-R all designed to enhance its already legendary performance." This is in addition to last years dramatic changes. The 2013 Nissan GT-R Price of $91,109 - $100,044.

But after putting the 2013 Nissan GT-R through our test regimen, we wont waste precious bandwidth waxing on about how this fifth-year GT-R is a much better machine than last years. The 2013 Nissan GT-R still awesome even if its performance numbers have changed no more than a fraction of a second.

Still, the 2013 Nissan GT-R stopped 2 feet shorter from 60 mph (106 feet) and a foot shorter from 30 mph (26 feet). Stops were incredibly stable and the pedal has a firm feel, but distances were quite erratic, varying by as much as 7 feet. The 2013 Nissan GT-R has changes, although seemingly conflicted for making the GT-R more drivable, had little influence on handling from a pure numbers standpoint. The 2013 Nissan GT-R slalom time of 73.7 mph was actually a smidge off the GT-R Black Edition tested last year, although 2013 Nissan GT-R still in the very upper echelon of sports cars. Same story on the skid pad, where it turned 0.99g with ESC off while its 1.01g with ESC on is better.

The cabin isn’t messy with extra control buttons. The optionally available touch-screen routing stations features many features in its main display, but I wish there were a plain-old stations adjusting handle incorporated into it like in designs without the routing system. The heating and cooling buttons are below the touch-screen, and that’s it for middle sprint manages. The simple design is amazing because many opponents are going the other route — including lots of control buttons to their decorations but not actually making them easier to use. Subaru Forester 2013 got it right on the functionality front side.

STYLING & DESIGN
The original inspiration for the i40 can be traced back to the Genus concept car in 2006. Debuting at the Geneva Show, Genus represented Hyundais vision in Europe for a unique alternative within the D-segment, combining practicality with emotional design. Genus helped to forge a new identity for the company, with the debut of the hexagonal grille, a feature which has since become part of Hyundais brand face in Europe.

The design represents an evolution of Hyundais unique form language, fluidic sculpture, creating a sleek, elegant Tourer with uncompromised comfort and load capacity. The fluidic sculpture design DNA is recognizable by flowing lines inspired by nature which combine to create a dynamic exterior, and was introduced on the Hyundai ix-onic concept car at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. Since this debut, fluidic sculpture has been the design inspiration behind all new Hyundai models, such as ix20, Veloster and ix35.

The sleek design of the Hyundai i40 Tourer does not impact negatively on the levels of interior comfort, cabin versatility and practicality or cargo capacity. The generous wheelbase (2770 mm) and overall width (1815 mm) create a cabin with impressive capacity. The new model delivers best-in-class dimensions for front seats occupants, with head (1025 mm), leg (1170 mm) and shoulder room (1455 mm).

With significant rear headroom and the unique bonus of reclining rear seats, Hyundais i40 Tourer promises to give all occupants the most comfortable D-segment ride available, even when spending long periods of time on the road.

Cargo capacity in the i40 more than holds its own among competitors in the class, with figures ranging from 553 litters with the rear seats occupied (loaded to the top of the seatbacks), up to 1719 liters with the rear seats folded down (loaded to the roof). Loading and unloading is also made easy by the lowest floor level in the D-segment - 592 mm from the ground, 43 mm below the Passat.

The new i40 is significantly sleeker than previous Hyundai models, with an improved aerodynamic drag figure (0.29 Cd wagon, 0.28Cd sedan) - enhancing inement, performance and fuel economy.

FLEET
The i40 will play a key role in expanding Hyundais presence in the UKs fleet sector, balancing efficiency with driver pleasure and providing a competitive customer assurance program and total cost of ownership. With a sales forecast of 5-6000 units in 2012, Hyundai expects approximately 60% of sales to come from the fleet sector.

Like all new Hyundai models, the i40 is backed up by Hyundais award-winning industry-best, transparent customer care package, Five Year Triple Care. This demonstrates Hyundais confidence in its vehicles, providing complete peace of mind to customers and making their ownership experience both rewarding and stress-free.

Hyundai has also now developed a stronger infrastructure and training programme that will deliver a first class service by our professional dealer network.

CsayaFORT & CONVENIENCE
The high level of equipment in the Hyundai i40 Tourer sets it aside from its competitors. It offers an extensive standard specification with numerous high-tech features - many of them available only as options on competitor models.

The Hyundai i40 Tourer will be generously equipped as standard with items such as: automatic headlights, front fog lights, Bluetooth® connectivity with voice recognition, electric front and rear windows, drivers knee airbag, active front head restraints, electric parking brake with automatic hold function, ESP, HAC (Hill-start Assist Control), manual air conditioning, and a six-speed transmission.

High-tech electronic features include Smart Parking Assist, Lane Departure Warning systems (as part of the optional Assist pack) and Xenon headlamps including static cornering lights which provide additional illumination of the nearside road and the verge during cornering. Connectivity items such as touchscreen satellite navigation and rear-view parking camera come as standard on Style and Premium.

Advanced exterior and interior lighting innovations, such as standard daytime running lights with optional Xenon headlights and LCD supervision instrument cluster will further strengthen the i40s position as the lead model in both Hyundais line-up and the D-segment.

An optional three-piece, full-width panoramic glass sunroof will be available on Premium models. The front section tilts, the center section slides and the rear is fixed. Inside, a roller blind blocks out the sun when needed and on the outside, the B- and C-pillar trims are finished in high-gloss black to complement the all-black framing of the roof.

Standard on Premium models, the memory function for the drivers seat retains the seat settings for two drivers.

To help owners cope with extremes of hot and cold climates, special options are offered. Optional ventilated seats as part of the Comfort pack provide ventilation, conducting cabin air through the cushion and backrest which can lower the temperature by 3°C (cushion) / 5°C (backrest) and lower humidity by 20% in 20 minutes. Also part of the Comfort pack, the i40s steering wheel will be available with a heated rim (up to 38°C) to enhance driver comfort in extremely cold conditions and heated rear seats are also available.

ENGINES
The all-new Hyundai i40 Tourer will be available with a choice of very competitive Euro V-compliant engines: two petrol units and one diesel with two outputs. These power units cover a 115 to 177PS output spread.

All engines are tuned for strong torque delivery extended across a wide engine-speed range, making the i40 an enjoyable car to drive around town or on the motorway. Manual and automatic transmissions will also be offered.

In a segment where diesel models represent 77% of total sales, Hyundai is anticipating that the high-power version of the 1.7-litre diesel unit developing 136PS will be the most popular engine among both private and fleet buyers. This engines high torque output (325 Nm from just 2,000 rpm) will ensure a responsive drive with acceleration to 62mph in just 10.6 seconds for the manual model and a brisk 12.0 seconds with automatic.

The low-power version produces 115PS which takes it from 0-62mph in 12.9 seconds.
The petrol engine is Hyundais all new four-cylinder 2.0-litre GDI engine, called Nu. This all-aluminum engine makes its debut in the i40, promising to deliver higher torque (for enhanced drivability), improved fuel economy and reduced emissions, plus undiminished durability and excellent NVH characteristics - similar to a multi-point fuel injected engine.

Equipped with GDI (gasoline direct injection) this 1999 cc unit generates 177PS which ensures that the i40 Tourer boasts best-in-class fuel economy. An i40 with this engine and a manual gearbox will accelerate to 62mph in just 9.7 seconds registering fuel economy figures of 39.2mpg (combined cycle) and achieve a CO2 rating of just 169 g/km.

The 1.6-litre petrol engine offers a well-proven 16-valve Gamma unit. It generates 135PS and accelerates from 0-62mph in 11.6 seconds.

Eco credentials
In terms of environmental performance, the all-new i40 will feature the latest technologies developed under Hyundais fuel-saving Blue Drive™ eco-program, including Intelligent Stop & Go (ISG), low rolling-resistance tires, an alternator management system (AMS) and a drag-reducing active air flap in the front grille.

When combined with the low-power 1.7-litre 115PS diesel engine, the inclusion of these Blue Drive™ features means that fuel consumption and CO2 emissions register at an impressively low 65.7mpg and 113 g/km respectively, making the i40 the most fuel efficient model in its segment. With Blue Drive features fitted, the CO2 emissions figures for the higher-spec Style 1.7-litre 136PS diesel are 119 g/km with 136PS and 62.8g/km.

Hyundai has continuously highlighted its desire to lead the way in terms of long-term environmental sustainability for the auto industry, and the new i40 furthers the companys commitment to delivering models with class-leading eco-performance.

While developing the i40 powertrains, Hyundai focused on achieving strong mid-range performance for maximum drivability and maximum driver appeal. Overall, Hyundai is expecting a 80/20% split between diesel and petrol-powered i40 sales in the UK - with the 1.7-litre 136PS diesel accounting for almost 50% of total i40 sales.

TRANSMISSIONS
To maximize fuel economy, reduce CO2 emissions and enhance inement, every Hyundai i40 Tourer will come equipped with a six-speed transmission.

The six-speed manual is an upgraded gearbox with improved multi-cone synchronization, optimized gear design, reduced weight, enhanced efficiency, reduced power loss, an optimized differential casing and superior durability up to 300,000 kilometers. The transmission, which is filled with low-viscosity oil, is maintenance-free and requires no servicing during the life of the vehicle.

The gearbox is fitted with a high sixth gear ratio, to minimize engine revs when cruising at speed, enhancing inement and cutting fuel consumption.

Developed in-house for fitment in a wide range of future vehicles, the all-new six-speed automatic transmission demonstrates world-class engineering skills. The driver can choose from two operating modes - fully automatic or manual. For city driving, fully automatic mode is ideal, while manual mode allows for clutch-less manual sequential gear changes for greater driver involvement - either using the centre console selector lever or the new steering wheel-mounted paddles (standard on all automatic models).

The paddles enable the driver to change gear without taking his/her hands off the steering wheel. Pulling the right-hand paddle towards the driver changes up, while pulling the left-hand paddle changes down.

Though the six-speed transmission is a regular torque converter automatic, it incorporates a unique flat torque converter, with three planetary gear sets and four pinion differentials - ensuring ultra-fast, smooth and precise gearshifts throughout the engine speed range - and it weighs just 78 kilos, only 20 kg more than the manual gearbox.

Its innovative layout makes this transmission the most compact six-speed unit currently available anywhere in the world. It is 54 mm shorter and weighs 12 kilos less than a regular five-speed unit and boosts fuel economy by up to 12%. Like the i40s six-speed manual, the automatic is a filled for life maintenance-free unit.

Whenever the car is stopped for more than a few seconds, the new transmissions innovative Neutral Control function automatically shifts the transmission from D to N, improving fuel economy especially in city driving.

RUNNING GEAR
Hyundais chassis engineering team were given the challenge of exploiting the robust all-new body shell structure and the new models long wheelbase, to ensure that the new tourers steering and ride/handling balance delivered a responsive drive, with premium levels of inement to rival the established best-in-class.

A new hydraulic power steering system was developed. The rack and pinion system is speed-sensitive and requires just 2.88 turns of the steering wheel from lock-to-lock, with a turning circle of 10.94 meters. Weighted to provide good steering feel and precise vehicle control, the system offers substantial feedback during out-of-town motoring and with low effort during parking and city driving.
Compact, lightweight MacPherson Strut suspension is employed at the front, with off-set, side-load springs to reduce friction and ensure smooth operation for enhanced ride quality.

A multi-link, fully-independent suspension system was engineered for the rear. It features dampers and coil springs which are mounted separately to more effectively disperse input loads and to minimize intrusion into the cabin and cargo bay.
To reduce NVH, both the front and rear suspension systems are mounted on a lightweight hydro-formed sub frame, with caully fine-tuned rubber bushes to help isolate the cabin and its occupants from irregularities in the road surface.

Every i40 is equipped with an all-disc braking system, backed up by ESP, ABS anti-lock, EBD brake-force distribution and Brake Assist systems as standard. For maximum stopping power, ventilated front discs and solid rear discs are fitted. Larger diameter brake discs (320 mm front and 300 mm rear) are available with 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels, standard on Style and Premium models respectively.

REFINEMENT
At the heart of the Hyundai i40 Tourers class-leading inement and its responsive handling is the all-new body shell. The increased use of ultra-high strength steel together with advanced engineering has resulted in superior stiffness and superb structural efficiency that outperform rivals. The new body shell will ensure that i40 occupants are barely aware of any vibrations from the road surface or from the cars mechanical components.

Compared with other European models, torsional rigidity is 11% greater and flexural (bending) stiffness is 23% higher. When structural efficiency is taken into account, the i40s body in white is 27% more efficient than its closest class competitor. With minimized vibrations, the i40 body shell has enabled Hyundais development team to deliver a car with outstanding NVH.

To bring the inement of diesel-powered i40 models as close as possible to the petrol vehicles, a new acoustic package has been developed. By using experimental methods such as Reciprocal Holography (to visualize noise reduction levels at certain frequency) and ADNA (Advanced Diagnostic Network Algorithm) to rank noise sources in the order of their identified transfer paths - the NVH performance, has been dramatically improved.

The new acoustic package ensures materials such as air permeable carpet, sound absorbing layers for engine-room encapsulation, and textile wheel-arch liners absorb noise sources from engine, road, and muffler, providing a 20% improvement in interior noise levels (on Articulation Index), and a reduction in outside engine noise when idling (compared to an i40 without these features).

Like many of the characteristics and attributes of i40, the NVH package was created to provide a quieter and more comfortable driving environment for diesel vehicles, developed particularly with high-mileage fleet users in mind.

SAFETY
The Hyundai i40 Tourer is equipped with the latest active and passive safety technologies to ensure maximum protection for its occupants. Active safety features, fitted as standard in many countries, include ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), ABS (anti-lock braking system), HAC (Hill Assist Control) to prevent roll-back when starting on an incline, VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), Brake Assist System and Emergency Stop Signal.

Several new active features are introduced with i40. As part of the ESC system and a standard feature in Western Europe, VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) helps the vehicle stay in a stable position by reducing the amount of assistance if the driver is applying too much steering effort - and increasing assistance if the driver is applying too little effort.

An ESS (Emergency Stop Signal) system ensures that trailing drivers are alerted whenever the driver has to make a sudden or abrupt stop as the rear hazard lamps automatically flash repeatedly when the system senses forceful pressure being applied to the brakes.

A Lane Departure Warning System (available on Premium models as as part of the Assist Pack), automatically corrects steering when the vehicle veers out of the lane.

To assist drivers during reversing or parking manoeuvres, two active systems are available. A new rear-view parking camera is fitted with a 130-degree, wide-angle lens which transmits images to the navigation display (standard on Style and Premium).

The i40 can also be ordered with Smart Parking Assist System which features cutting-edge optional technologies that make parking easier than ever before. The system will automatically drive the car into/out of parking spaces (between two cars parked in single file) that are only 100 cm longer than the vehicle, with the driver only having to control the brake and accelerator.

In terms of passive safety, every i40 on the road in the UK will be fitted with seven airbags - front, side, curtain and driver knee airbag available as standard on all models.

With its stiffer, stronger all-new body shell, Hyundai anticipates the i40 will continue the companys excellent safety record and attain the maximum 5-Star rating in Euro NCAPs impact assessment program.

Gumpert Apollo 2008

  • Gumpert Apollo, 2008

The Gumpert Apollo is the perfect synthesis between road vehicle and racing car. It exceeds all expectations with its passion and maximum driving fun. 650 HP, up to 360 km/h top-speed and an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.0 seconds make it a full-blooded super sports car to which there is no alternative. The complete package is available at a cost-performance ratio unequalled in this exclusive vehicle class.

The production process is the one part of the manufacture philosophy in which exclusivity and precision are paramount to speed. Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur associates the term ‚manufacture with its the commitment to achieve quality and luxury by means of craftsmanship and hand-made production.

Roland Gumpert, founder, managing director and the driving force behind Sportwagenmanufaktur, has created a manufacturing environment that combines engineering excellence with a broad automotive and racing competence. Experts within the motorsports scene are all familiar with the name Gumpert: In the mid 1970s, the long-standing Audi manager was the driving force behind the development of the four-wheel drive "Iltis", the original predecessor of todays "Quattro". In 1979 he not only succeeded in preparing the gnarled four-wheel drive "Iltis" for the Paris-Dakar rally, but also achieved victory. In the years that followed under his management, Audi Sport won a total of 25 World Rally Championship races and was the 4-time winner of the World Rally Championship. Gumperts professional success is distinguished by his ability to combine innovative ideas with proven technology effectively and successfully.
Gumpert Apollo

A team of automotive and motor sports specialists joined forces to pool their enthusiasm and energy into developing and creating the Gumpert Apollo. Their abilities create the space for the finest workmanship and utmost individuality, with the use of high-tech processes and integration of proven standard components securing the technical basis.

With the Gumpert Apollo we are providing a select clientele of ambitious sports drivers and car enthusiasts with the opportunity of experiencing the unique synergy between hand-made high-end components optimised for performance on the road and the track, and of distinguishing themselves from the remainder of the world of sports cars. Up to 100 vehicles will leave the factory each year - just enough to ensure that these exceptional vehicles retain their exclusive status.

Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur is an independent, privately financed company. The financial stability of the company is being secured by well-known investors. Their operative commitment will also promote the international sales and distribution of Gumpert Apollo.

The challenge was to develop an exceptional design that combined the extreme aerodynamic requirements of a performance-oriented, purist super sports car with the aesthetic design of an exclusive vehicle. We wanted to achieve the perfect synthesis of design and function. Without compromising. And we have succeeded with Gumpert Apollo: Its silhouette, optimised in numerous wind tunnel tests, lects its by far superior capabilities.

In its profile, the Gumpert Apollo dynamic appearance is further enhanced by its dimensions (4.46 m length, almost 2 m width and 1.24 m height) and its streamlined, long and wide shoulder lines. The mid-engine layout is emphasised by the cockpit, which is clearly located toward the front of the vehicle, and the long wheel base; both factors ensure optimum driving qualities. Massive air inlets and outlets in the front and on the side in front of and behind the doors leave no doubt about its potency. Above all, though, they supply the two turbo-chargers and the high-performance braking system with enough fresh air to ensure optimum operation for the duration of a race. The high-set air intake for the engine is reminiscent of Formula 1 vehicles and emphasises Gumpert Apollo racing character. The dominant rear provides a view of the diffuser and the underbody, encased completely in carbon, - which, combined with the front diffuser and flow channels, achieves an exceptionally high negative lift for a road vehicle.

Gumpert Apollo leaves a lasting impression on anyone who sees it: It symbolises unusual power, dynamism and sportiness. It lects above-average performance capability paired with timeless elegance, and even when it is not moving, shows that the design can only adhere to function: driving dynamics.

The secret of Gumpert Apollo is an innovative design concept from racing car engineering. The base and symbolic backbone of Gumpert Apollo consists a round tube frame made of top-quality and highly stable chrome-molybdenum-steel with an integrated monocoque safety cell made of high quality carbon fibre screwed directly onto the frame. The 161 kg (355 lbs.) construction design is so effective, so torsion proof and bend resistant that it complies with both the specifications of the European MOT approval and the international manufacture specifications of motor sports (see annex J of the FIA regulations). Gumpert Apollo succeeds in combining low weight with the rigidity of a racing car, finest driving dynamics and maximum safety. The Gumpert Apollo is one of the safest and most agile vehicles of its class.

PERFORMANCE IN A NEW DIMENSION

The Gumpert Apollo is not the only sports car on the market; however its concept is so unique and realised so consistently that it aspires to redefine the standard for this vehicle class. The Gumpert Apollo has more to offer:

In addition to these different options and equipment packages, we can of course also accommodate any other special requests made by our customers. Just talk to us.

The consistent achievement of maximum driving dynamics and uncompromising functionality is also visible in the interior design: Every detail was designed according to functional viewpoints equivalent to those of a racing car, yet without neglecting the required amount of comfort and quality.

TAILOR-MADE PURISM AND LUXURY
Light weight was the top priority and has been achieved through the exclusive use of high-tech materials. The instrument panel, like the monocoque it is integrated into, is made of carbon fibre. The seat buckets, too, are fitted into the monocoque - although you will not find seats in the conventional meaning in the Gumpert Apollo. The seat position is adjusted to each customer individually, using padding, upholstery, adjustable pedals, and the steering column. Yet you are not required to forgo proven technology in the Gumpert Apollo: air conditioning, high-end navigation system with an integrated reverse camera, CD/DVD player and much more are available.

The Gumpert Apollo is a tailor-made sports car, and individual masterpiece. In line with this principle, customers can design the interior to meet their perences, be it pure performance or somewhat more luxurious. Decide the colours and designs yourself, whether leather, seams or embroideries are concerned. We guarantee you a car that will fulfil all of your requirements. Just talk to us.

READY FOR RACETRACK
A sports cars supremacy is not defined by pure engine power alone: only a car that can put this power on the asphalt and create a balance between all occurring internal and external forces will leave the contestants behind, on the road and the race track. The chassis is the key to this supremacy - and Gumpert Apollo has already proven itself spectacularly under the toughest testing conditions on various test tracks, public roads and real racing tracks such as Hockenheim, Imola and the historical "Nordschleife".

The Gumpert Apollo is built as a racing car according to FIA GT and ACO regulations upon request.
Success is one of Gumpert Sportwagenmanufakturs clearly defined objectives in racing. Naturally the factory benefits from the years of experience in motor sports and the remarkable successes of company owner Roland Gumpert.

The Gumpert Apollo made a great third place with the Belgian racing driver, Ruben Maes, in the cockpit at its racing debut at the Divinol Cup in Hockenheim in April 2005.

PROVEN PERFORMANCE IN A NEW DIMENSION
The impressive power of the high-performance eight cylinder engine is based on proven V8-high-performance aggregates from Audi. In the standard configuration this engine is optimised for use in racing and road vehicles and produces 650 HP as a Biturbo engine. Weighing only 196 kg (432 lbs.), it plays a major role in ensuring the ideal weight and fascinating driving dynamics of Gumpert Apollo. An angle of 90° between the two cylinder banks is a sign of a classic 8-cylinder engine. Efficient utilisation of its remarkable energy in the back wheels guarantees the fully-synchronised, sequential six-speed transmission that incorporates Formula 1 know-how. The short gear paths allow high speed gear changes. The arrangement of the gears in a longitudinal direction in the path of travel ensures a very low centre of gravity and optimum weight distribution. The characteristic sound of the double-flow exhaust system of the Gumpert Apollo with its 3-way catalytic converters says it best - the Gumpert Apollo is pure, unbeatable performance as lected in the data. Like a comet, the Gumpert Apollo catapults its pilot from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 3.0 seconds and only requires 8.9 seconds from 0 to 200 km/h (0-124 mph).

For connoisseurs form whom driving fun does not necessarily equal maximum motor performance and ultimate acceleration, the engine is also ideally suited for day-to-day driving at lower speeds.

DRIVING DYNAMICS REDEFINED
The Gumpert Apollos suspension was developed to ideally complement the bodys sophisticated aerodynamics. The resulting is unusual driving dynamics. The Gumpert Apollo is taut but not hard and provides driver and passenger with an extraordinar level of comfort for a car designed purely for performance. It demands the pilots unswerving attention, yet due to its ultra-precise and predictable driving characteristics does not overwhelm, even at top speed.

An ideal weight balance of 42 to 58 percent between the front and rear axis rounds it off: It provides optimum traction during acceleration, whilst ensuring stable control even when braking in critical situations.

The Gumpert Apollo owes the finely tuned sensitivity of the suspension system and the optimised exertion of power to its double transverse control arm pushrod configuration at the front and back. The double transverse control arms ensure that the tires maintain optimum contact with the road surface, independent of the bound rate of suspension system. The suspension system allows the owner to seamlessly set the ground clearance in a range between 40 and 120 mm (1.57-4.72 in). Sealed uniball joints ensure that the forces are transferred precisely and with little friction. Stabilisers support the efficiency of the suspension and pitch compensation prevents the vehicle from diving during braking and lifting during accelerating. Despite its low trim, the Gumpert Apollo provides long wheel travel in compression and rebound, facilitating the finely-tuned and precise functioning of the absorbers and springs.

The high level of driving dynamics is supported by an agile electro-hydraulic power steering system that provides the driver with direct feedback. In order to securely transfer the 850 nm torque to the road, Gumpert Apollo has a traction control system (TCS) used in motor sports. Developed together with the company Racelogic, the permitted slip can be accurately set on the rear axle - according to the drivers wishes. An optional launch control, adjusted to the Gumpert Apollo especially, ensures swift starts like those of Formula 1. The Gumpert Apollos driving performance is controlled with a 2-circuit high-performance braking system with adjustable 3-level Bosch-ABS, 378 mm (14.9 in) ventilated discs, and 6-piston callipers on the front and rear axle.

All of these are primary technical principles, the sportive orientation of which could not be clearer. Thanks to its suspension, the Gumpert Apollo proves itself in every curve: It redefines the term ‚driving dynamics.
