Hyundai has just released the first images of its all-new 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe crossover. From the looks of the two teaser photos, the 2013 Santa Fe appears poised to do battle with Honda and Toyota just as the Sonata did with the Accord and Camry.
The all-new Santa Fe will be the first model to liberally apply Hyundai’s emerging “Storm Edge” design language, which is a bit different than the Korean brand’s now familiar “Fluidic Sculpture” form. The 2013 Santa Fe wears a revised version of the Hyundai’s six-sided grille with three thicker and flatter bars that dominate the front fascia. The headlights mimic those from the recently revealed 2012 Azera sedan, and sport both projector lenses and an LED running lamp that sweeps across the top of the headlamp assembly. Large fog lights are also outlined with L-shaped LEDs as well.
We can’t help but see quite a bit of Audi influence in the new Santa Fe, especially in the rear quarters. Taillights and a rounded rump recall the large Audi Q7, although the Santa Fe’s beltline, which kicks up sharply in the rear door, allows the Hyundai crossover to look a bit more dynamic than the Audi.
The teaser photos aren’t a complete surprise, as we previously caught the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe out testing – even without camouflage. There’s no official word yet on what will power the 2013 Santa Fe. The present vehicle deploys a 175-hp 2.4-liter I-4 and 276-hp 3.5-liter V-6, with a six-speed automatic transmission. There is a chance that since the Santa Fe shares its architecture with the Hyundai Sonata sedan, the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe could ditch the six-cylinder offerings and instead go with range of naturally aspirated and turbocharged I-4s.
We’ll get a better look and more details about the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe in the coming weeks, as its 2012 New York Auto Show debut draws closer.
